The latest color-display technology gives both units the brightest, sunlight-readable displays available. And with brand-new state-of-the-art receivers and powerful microprocessors, these units will give you a quick and steady fix. In addition, the GPSMAP 76CS boasts a built-in electronic compass and barometric altimeter.

The GPSMAP 76CS have the familiar family keypads and styling, with 115 MB of memory, an America’s Autoroute Basemap and Marine Basemap.  Fast USB connectivity makes loading charts and maps quick and easy, while navigation instructions can be shared with repeaters, plotters, and autopilots using NMEA protocols through the dedicated serial port.

It is waterproof and fully compatible with MapSource® products like BlueChart®, US Topo 24K and City Select® (which provides detailed streets for turn-by-turn guidance).

This basemap comes factory installed with the BMW Motorcycles Navigator.  The Marine Point Database (Americas) comes factory installed and the standard map coverage includes:

1.        Cities with population 200K and above worldwide

2.        Nautical navaids for North and South America

3.        Tide Stations for the US are viewable only on GPS-72, GPS-76C and GPS-152

Garmin mapping units come with built-in, permanent basemaps that cannot be altered. These basemaps come in a variety of global designations (i.e., Atlantic basemap). Please see your local dealer when purchasing a Garmin mapping unit to ensure that you are purchasing one with a basemap that's appropriate for your location and needs. Factory-installed basemaps cannot be altered.

The Americas Routable basemap includes the United States, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, and Central and South America, and covers an area from W180 to W30 Longitude, S60 to N72 Latitude. Also included is a high-level worldwide map with political boundaries and major cities.

Standard map coverage includes:

1.        Oceans, rivers, and lakes (greater than 30 sq. miles)

2.        Principal cities and a small amount of smaller cities and towns

3.        Major interstates and principal highways

4.        Political boundaries (state and international borders)

5.        Railroads

6.        Major Airports

A. United States - In addition to the standard map coverage, it also includes:

1.        Small lakes, major streams, and rivers

Most newer Garmin® GPS units are waterproof in accordance with IEC 60529 IPX7. IEC 60529 is a European system of test specification standards for classifying the degrees of protection provided by the enclosures of electrical equipment. An IPX7 designation means the GPS case can withstand accidental immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. An IPX8 designation is for continuous underwater use.
